Twitter – Use It !

by Admin on February 25, 2010

I’m short on time, still making beads for the Spring and listening to the Health Care Summit. Two very important updates. I’m using Twitter more and more these days. in order to be effective with Twitter, you really need to target your audience, for example my audience is mothers of tweens and women who have the money to spare for handmade jewelry. I looked on Twitseeker and found twitter users that have those interests or demographics, I followed them and some or most of them follow me back. I also make political jewelry, and have a deep interest in politics so I found those twitter users as well.
Another great tool is Bit.ly, they have a sidebar that you can install on your browser, it enables you to tweet the current page’s content to your Twitter page. So, for me that means that whenever I post a new item on Etsy, I can then Twitter via bit.ly the link to the new item. I also setup my Twitter to post the tweet on Facebook. These things are simple to do, but you have to navigate a little in order to find the settings and links to set things up. Don’t underestimate the value of Twitter, my Etsy hits went up 1,000% since using Twitter, no kidding !

The other thing I did was change my background on my Twitter page. On the web graphics and first impressions are everything. You know how long you spend on a web page before you click off, you need to catch your viewer’s attention and catch it fast. I searched and experimented for hours trying to find the right background and the right instructions. Finally, I hit on one site that offered the best instructions I’ve found. I use Photoshop almost exclusively and this tutorial fit my needs perfectly. As far as backgrounds, you have to navigate through tons of backgrounds, some free and some at minimal cost. What I finally settled on was a graphic designed by an artist on Deviant Art.
